Chapter 9: The Nutritional Sphere — Pages 35 & 36The Jigsaw Puzzle metaphor isn't sufficient to express the interrelation of the processes in the human body. We need to consider three dimensions... like everything else in the real world. Every bit of nutrition you consume has a positive or negative impact on your health. If the level of oil in your car is down a quart, your auto will still get you where you're going—for a while—but it's wearing away at the inner surfaces of the engine, ruining your gas mileage, and getting ever closer to complete failure. Such is the relationship between nutrition and the moving parts of your body. An incomplete supply of all the nutrients required for health doesn't kill you, but it erodes your body and deteriorates the quality of your life. Later in life, walkers, medications by the fist-full, hospitalizations and surgeries will be the result of that wear-and-tear. Further, health-in-a-pill as promised by Dr. TV and slick advertisements is hollow. Nothing distilled to a pill or potion can address the myriad intricacies of human health. Like shooting paintballs at the sphere, vast areas of essential nutrition are left unaddressed and unsatisfied. I'd like to assure you that at least they can't hurt, but I don't know that for a fact. Only food sources close to nature can satisfy all the complex nutritional needs associated with a long, healthy, and happy life, and help you lose weight along the way. |
